The midsize luxury SUV space is rife with competition, and two of its most well-known contestants are the 2025 BMW X5 and the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE Class. To spare our customers at Peake BMW from creating a spreadsheet comparing and contrasting the two, we’ve taken matters into our own hands. A riveting duel between esteemed vehicles awaits you, so make sure to read on!
**Performance**
We can bet that you’ll have a great time in both the X5 and the GLE Class, as each is potent enough to upgrade how you travel throughout Mandeville. The standard 3.0L BMW M TwinPower turbocharged 6-cylinder engine exudes potential that exceeds that of the Mercedes-Benz, earning up to 375 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque. Because there’s slightly less punchiness on the GLE Class, with just 255 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque emitted through a standard 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with mild hybrid drive, it is merely capable of a 7.0-second1 0-to-60 MPH sprint. Merging onto Tammany Parkway will be a little easier with the BMW X5, as it can reach 60 MPH from a full stop in only 5.3-seconds2 by comparison. Despite BMW’s SUV being faster, it still manages to outdo Mercedes-Benz's vehicle in fuel economy specifications by earning a 23/27/25 MPG city/hwy/combined3 EPA gas mileage rating versus 19/26 city/hwy4, respectively.
**Exterior**
The 2025 BMW X5 and the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE Class are recognizable from afar due to their upscale looks and respective brand badging. Standing a little taller, however, is the former SUV, sporting 20-inch V-spoke alloy wheels. When placed next to the latter model’s standard 19-inch 10-spoke aluminum variants, it will appear more confident and bold. While taking in each of their heights, make a note of the BMW X3’s standard satin aluminum roof rails versus the GLE Class’ standard aluminum variants. They will have a more matte-like finish to them as opposed to a more polished look, a stylistic choice that may appeal to many buyers. Satin aluminum is also found on exterior bits of the X5 as a standard embellishment, which you won’t see when examining Mercedes-Benz’s vehicle up close.
**Technology**
With luxury SUVs being a large investment, you won’t want them to feel technologically outdated after only one or two years. Each manufacturer behind the X5 and the GLE Class kept this in mind, as they’re both compatible with standard over-the-air infotainment updates. Hardware-wise, however, the BMW’s model will always exceed Mercedes-Benz in this area thanks to a standard 14.3-inch central information display. It rivals the 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia panel found in the GLE Class, meaning that directions to Tchefuncte River will be larger and easier to read. Each SUV will allow you to listen to the music or audiobooks you have stored on your phone by using wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, or you can use either SUV’s SiriusXM® trial subscription. This courtesy period is valid for one year if you purchase the X5 from our location, and only six months if you go for a GLE Class. It’s no secret that you’ll have more media access by going with the BMW X5 from us!
