Two highly capable midsize luxury electric SUVs are pitted against each other in this article by our Peake BMW sales team. At our dealership location, we are offering the 2026 BMW iX, which we believe offer a number of advantages over its competitor in the form of the 2026 Tesla Model Y. Read the text below to discover how they compare.

Exterior

In the BMW iX, you will have 20-inch Aero Frozen Dark Grey wheels with summer tires to improve performance as you take a trip through Covington, GA, in this SUV. The Model Y only has 19-inch crossflow wheels as its standard, which are smaller and have a more diminutive profile. As far as illumination on dark roads is concerned, you’ll benefit from how brightly the standard LED headlamps in each vehicle will shine. The front-facing view of the BMW iX has a stylish and bold illuminated kidney grille as an available feature. No grille exists on the Model Y, as you’ll only have a minimalist sheet of body material in its place. Premium comforts, such as standard auto-dimming driver side mirrors in the BMW iX will reduce glare and help keep your trips past places like Central Park more enjoyable. Perhaps the Model Y was built with a less-is-more exterior design, as its standard side-mirrors will feature a simplistic manual-folding function.

Performance

With the standard dual-electric motors, which are engineered for high performance, in the 2026 BMW iX, you’ll have the power of up to 650 horsepower and 811 lb.-ft. of torque available to help you complete your journeys down I-20. Its counterpart in the Model Y only has an available twin-motor assembly that can net 297 combined horsepower and 389 lb.-ft. of torque. You can go further in the BMW iX with an EPA-estimated 364-mile all-electric driving range1. On the other hand, the Model Y can only muster 357 miles of range2, and this comes at the expense of its available AWD capability by opting for a trim with standard RWD. The BMW iX features no such restriction and has xDrive AWD as its standard. While the acceleration of Tesla’s creation can max out at a 0 to 60 MPH timing of 4.6 seconds3, this is an available feature and comes at the cost of losing 30 miles from distance you can go on one charge. Getting onto the highway in the standard Model Y only lets you experience this in 6.8 seconds, which is much longer than the 4.9 seconds4 that the baseline BMW can demonstrate.

Interior

Those who drive the BMW iX will appreciate the sporty interior provided by the standard perforated Sensatec upholstery. Although, the Model Y does feature perforated vegan leather as an available option on its higher trim levels. Anyone who drives the iX near places like City Park will be able to tell you about the privacy and discretion provided by the standard panoramic eclipsing roof, which also gives a wide view of the sky. On the other hand, the Model Y attempts to mimic this through a standard closed glass roof. Within each cabin, we would like you to compare the standard gold bronze trim accents in the BMW versus the baseline aluminum trim in the Model Y.
